Giant's Head Summit

Giant’s Head Mountain is on the west side of Okangan Lake and is one of Summerland’s most familiar landmarks. The trails that lead to the summit offer magnificent views of the lake, as well as the surrounding valley vineyards and farms. This mountain park holds historical, ecological and recreational importance in Summerland and the surrounding area. It features a unique ecosystem with prominent Ponderosa Pine forests, Douglas fir, balsamroot, and sagebrush.

 

Since I often enjoy hiking on the many different trails to the summit, I have viewed the beauty of this landscape in many different lights, time of day, and atmosphere. My strategy for painting this particular sky included layers of semitransparent veils of colour that created the depth and richness that I desired. I will always be inspired by the many landscapes of Giant’s Head Mountain.
