Spotted Lake, Sky Reflections

Spotted Lake is a twenty-two acre body of water situated west of Osoyoos in the Sunny Okanagan. This sacred lake is a culturally and ecologically sensitive area, and a traditional medicine lake for the Sylix people. Spotted Lake was the gathering place of First Nations people from the lands now called British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Since this lake is ever changing in colour and
temperature, both light and colour play an important part when painting Spotted Lake. The sun, and the subsequent reflections on the lake evoke an optimistic sense of well being, and a celebration of natural light. The atmosphere at Spotted Lake inspires me to use colour boldly, appreciate the light, and celebrate the surrounding
natural environment of sages and grasses.
