Where Time Stands Still
As I looked up at the beautiful bluffs illuminated by the sunlight in the late afternoon in spring, I enjoyed the play of light against the water of Okanagan Lake. The warm naples yellow of the silt bluffs, and the natural new green growth near the shoreline created a reflection in the water of a large part of the colour spectrum. I used a ladder on this particular day to do my first sketch, in order to be high enough to see over the many boats and sailing masts in the marina. In depicting this South East basin area in warm colours, it reminded me of the many Henri Rousseau greens that he used for his beautiful paintings. This location represents the area to the east of Penticton Creek where it enters Okanagan Lake in Penticton. Many local residents that live in the area will easily recognize the KVR trail outlined above the bluffs, as well as Munson Mountain bathed in the warm spring light.
